So often, individuals are struggling with past issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression that have led to the loss of enjoyment in life and have gotten in the way of personal growth. Individual Therapy can be helpful in dealing with many life problems, helping to cope with stress and transitions in life, and identifying and stopping unhelpful thoughts and behavior patterns. Our therapists’ specialties are wide ranging; including serving adolescents and families with substance use and trauma and behavioral issues.
At Maple Grove Therapy and Wellness, our therapists are trained in specialized treatments proven successful in treating PTSD and symptoms associated with traumatic events in children, adolescents and adults. Additionally, the therapists use evidence-based treatment approaches in traditional talk therapy including solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
[clear-line]Maple Grove Therapy Approaches Include:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an evidence based psychotherapy used to treat the symptoms associated with distressing life experiences. It was once thought that deep emotional pain took years to heal but many studies have shown that EMDR can speed up that healing in as little as 3-6 sessions with a single traumatic experience. EMDR helps people process “stuck” memories and make meaning from such experiences. This approach empowers and increases self-esteem by transforming feelings of hopelessness and powerlessness.
EMDR works without in depth conversations about your experiences and doesn’t use homework.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma. Research shows that TF-CBT successfully treats a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with scary events. This approach can effectively treat symptoms in 8-25 sessions.
Parents/Caregivers are an integral part of this treatment and involved throughout the process. TF-CBT allows children and young adults to put words to their experiences and tell their story in their own way.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is evidence-based for both mental health and chemical health and focuses on the identification of unhelpful belief systems and cognitive restructuring in order to create healthier behavior patterns. CBT is a practical, action-oriented approach to coping with problems and enhancing personal growth. CBT places a good deal of its focus on the present: on currently-held attitudes, painful emotions and maladaptive behaviors that can sabotage a fuller experience of life. CBT also provides people with an individualized set of proven techniques for helping them to solve problems and identify coping skills. CBT then provides a variety of methods to help people reformulate their unhelpful beliefs into more sensible, realistic and helpful ones.
Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)
Solution Focused Therapy is centered on a desired goal and emphasis how you are going to get there. It is present and future oriented rather than concentrating on the past. It works to have individuals focus on what the future can be and how to get there rather than talking about or processing past events.
